Most masterplans fail to provide the long-term guidance that those who commissioned them had hoped for. Placeplanning is being developed by UDS both to remedy this and to provide a structured approach to creating development strategies through the planning system.
UDS’s past and current projects have tested the essentials of placeplanning from street and neighbourhood to town and city scales. These projects include collaborative and team working, the use of charrettes (intensive open working sessions) and a focus on implementation. Final documentation, such as the Neilston Town Charter, highlights the process and design strategies.
